Lyric FM is a state-funded national arts and culture station broadcasting from its base in the centre of Limerick to the whole of Ireland. Broadcasts started on May 1st 1999, continuing on from where previous incarnation, FM3, left off. Under RTE's wings Lyric FM is doing a reasonable job of making the arts sexy without alienating Mr Average. A diverse range of programming covering opera, classical, jazz and world music bring a fresh style of alternative broadcasting to an Irish audience starved of choice. Indeed, Lyric's logo represents "the transmission of musical waves embracing all tastes in Ireland"
